The community came into the Rockaway Tree Lighting Festival via, cars, bikes, foot AND our beloved cable car shuttles. The festival grows every year as many more learn of this fabulous festival that sits right along the coast where most years a beautiful sunset fills the background.
Festivalgoers started to arrive at 3;30pm with festivities starting at 4pm. At 4pm the band The OffShoots hit the stage with performances that followed. At 5pm Santa was heard arriving on his firetruck as the sirens alerted festivalgoers of his arrival. Santa greeted all the children and then sat at his chair and listen to all the holiday wishes the children so anxiously awaited to tell him.
Vendors lined the street as local merchants opened their doors to offer holiday treats, specials and arts & craft makings. Four food trucks catered to the crowds as snow flurries fell from the sky. As 6pm neared festvalgoers gathered near the holiday tree to witness the magical tree lighting ceremony with the countdown conducted by Chamber CEO Vickie Flores and Katrina Rill a representative from Congresswoman Jackie Speier's office.
Other festivities included free pony rides, selfies with Santa, strolling Disney characters, a petting zoo, Santa's Post Offica & Letter Writing and the local library's Bookmobile where many items had been checked out that evening.
We want to thank our sponsors, donors, volunteers, merchants, vendors and festivalgoers for another successful event. See you all next year!
